First and Second Artists Join The Last Artist
I am overjoyed to announce that Samantha Marie Cook and Tom Walton have joined The Last Artist. I first worked with Samantha on Heart Monitor. I also worked with Tom on Heart Monitor as well as another couple of features. I am impressed with the professionalism and quick wit of the both of them. They are truly funny people and I hope my script doesn’t obscure that.
For some reason, it seems like attaching actors to a project is a milestone that makes the project even more real. Once talent is attached, the production team starts scheduling, which can be a rather difficult part of production. To butcher the analogy, if making a film is a Sisyphean task then casting the actors is like when the boulder crests the hill: everything picks up the pace and it can feel like you’re just holding on for dear life.
I’m really excited about The Last Artist. I started writing it before I’d even filmed Killdeer (I may have a problem…) and it’s pushing into a new genre and introducing some new technical challenges. I really enjoy working with both Samantha and Tom as well as the rest of the crew for this one. While Future Me may end up shaking his fist at Past Me (can I get Sunita Mani to play Past Me?) this should be a nice amuse-bouche between Killdeer and next year’s film.
